National competitions

WI members can take part in a wide range of competitions as part of their membership subscription. Competitions are devised not only to bring fun and motivational opportunities to members, but to also act as a learning tool to develop members' skills and encourage them to try new activities.

There are competitions available to suit all members; cookery, craft, writing, design, sport, competitions that require members to work as a team and others as individuals.

A selection of other competitions currently offered to members are:

Lady Denman Cup
A competition requiring members to write an individual piece of work based on a set theme. This is a prestigious annual competition.

Huxley Cup Competition
A floral art competition held at a different show ground each year that requires members to produce an arrangement, as specified by the show, showing maximum creativity and design.

Previous competitions have included: Stylish Stitches (a knitting and crochet competition sponsored by the UK Handknitting Association), Fancy some Physics (design a cartoon strip, in conjunction with the Institute of Physics) and The WI Tri ( a triathlon of swimming 5 miles, walking or running 50 miles and cycling 20 miles).
