A Welsh Break

On Sunday morning we travelled North to Caernarvon with a lunch break at Chester, taking in the Cathedral, city walls, River Dee, Rows and much more. On Monday we took in the scenery of the Llanberis Pass and on to Gwydir Castle. The afternoon was spent in Conwy (or Llandudno)
On Tuesday the highlight of our visit was to WI House, Anglesey Federation, then on to Plas Newydd. On Wednesday we travelled home with morning refreshments at Ardleen WI, following by a lunch stop at Shrewsbury.  A wonderful trip with great company but all too soon the visits ended and we promised ourselves we would return!!

Visit to Houses of Parliament

This advertised trip was hugely popular and much over-subscribed. So much so that five further day trips have been arranged. The first trip was a never to be forgotten, memorable experience and certainly lived up to expectations.

Scottish Royal Highlights & the Edinburgh Tattoo tour

(Click here for a report by Gloria Alderman of Cosgrove WI)

We travelled north arriving at Lancaster for lunch. Journeying onwards we arrived at the magnificent Peebles Hydro Hotel in time for a quick swim before the three-course evening meal.

Next day we visited the Robert Smails Printing Works (NT). Some members even printed their own bookmark using traditional methods. Then followed a three-course lunch at the Peebles Hydro after which we travelled to Leith to tour The Royal Yacht Britannia.

The Edinburgh Tattoo completed the day. A fantastic spectacle showcasing music and culture from around the world, finishing with the lone piper.

Rosslyn Chapel was our next visit. It was used for filming some of the Da Vinci code. Falkirk was next on the itinerary. We had an unscheduled stop to see the Kelpies, Scotland's newest iconic landmark. A ride on the Falkirk Wheel was tremendous. Photos do not do this engineering feat justice.

Sadly, after breakfast we left our hotel, had a brief stop at Gretna Green, then travelled to Skipton, where the friendliness of the local people made up for the rain (weather was sunny and warm until now).

Our thanks to Lisa or Avalon Tours who made sure we all had a memorable and happy trip.
