What better way to spend a winter Saturday morning than with friends - with plates on your heads and indulging in coffee and croissants, with fruit too! This was the annual get-together of sub-committee members, Federation appointees and Trustees. Much fun had by all.  Why not come and join us?

Forget the dismal weather outside, we enjoyed wonderful warming company at WI House, including coffee/tea and cake with a bonus of a free second cup!

November County Walk - Ashton / Oundle  The morning turned out to be mild and almost dry Ann had quickly improvised a 'town' walk owing to many of the riverside paths being flooded. We explored Oundle on the way to Barnwell Country Park before retracing our steps to the Chequered Skipper for refreshments. Click here for more on the Walking Group

MOT for Federations - Our National Chair came to Northamptonshire! She is also a National Trainer but quite capable of carrying a tray of cups! Along with Catherine Blaxhall we were guided through an MOT and not a car in sight! A fun but informative day for Trustees.

2019 AGM - Baroness Floella Benjamin received a standing ovation for her inspirational talk. A fantastic evening where reports of our amazing year were heard, upcoming events publicised, winners of our raffle and bursaries were delighted and everyone had a super time!

WI Climate Ambassadors - out and about again!
Say 'Hello' to Cloudier who was at the Daventry Food Festival with Braunston WI members.Cloudier was featuring the Climate Change scarf that the ladies from Braunston WI had knitted- each row represents the temperature of every year from 1919 to help us visualise the impact of climate change.
Visitors to the WI stand were met with words of encouragement to learn how we can all make small changes in reducing our carbon footprint and were encouraged to eat seasonally. #The Time is Now to take action on Climate Change!
Well done to the Braunston WI ladies and special thanks to Kate who always supports our #Showthelove campaign.

WI Climate Ambassadors were at Daventry Family Cinema Day.  Members of both Braunston and Daventry WIs spent the day encouraging the children to make bug hotels and so learn about the importance of pollinators. By playing Veggie Top Trumps they started conversations about eating seasonally and some children made origami hearts to record their carbon reduction transport pledges.  WI members had a lovely day offering plenty of activities for children, as well as the opportunity to talk about climate change issues.

Delegates from Northamptonshire joined 4000 members from other Federations for the AGM. An inspiring Conference, meeting up with friends but not forgetting the real purpose of the Conference - to conduct the business of the AGM.

2019 Skittles Final
Earls Barton Working Mens Club was the venue for the Skittles Final between Great Billing WI (last year's winners) and Welton WI (who had never been to a final before). This year's final did not disappoint - it was hotly contested with an entourage of enthusiastic supporters. Huge congratulations are due to Welton WI our 2019 Champions!

Congratulations RAUNDS WI on receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from the Mayor for their time and service at Raunds Town Council coffee and film afternoons, which are aimed at people on their own to come and make new friends. Sometimes up to 150 people turn up. Well done!

Watercolours Fast and Loose
Watercolourists "had a go" and found this to be a fascinating hobby.This was a return visit for Gill, our excellent tutor who made the workshop just as enjoyable as previous times.

2019 County Quiz
The closely contested County Quiz held at Wicksteed Park Pavilion was won by Northampton Kingsley WI, closely followed by Geddington & Newton A team which came second and Cosgrove WI which came third. Photo shows David Saint presenting the trophy to the Northampton Kingsley WI team.

Spring Coffee Morning 2019
Climate change was on the Agenda as Towcester Evening WI brought along their display, including a washing line. More significantly they showed us their Best Green Heart Award which was presented at the Climate Coalition's Show the Love" Green Heart Hero Awards. No Coffee Morning would be complete without shopping, WI coffee & cake and lots of fun meeting members from round the County.

Science Lectures - "Microbiotics" & "Yuck that's Disgusting"
Professor Hilary MacQueen informed and entertained us with her talk on "Microbiotics". Doctor Rachel McMullan introduced us to her "Disgust-o-meter". In a relaxed way we learned of the Good Bugs and the Bad Bugs in our bodies. Also of experiments and advances in medical science. Who would think science could be so interesting!

Jigsaw Fun Day Dextrous members became utterly absorbed in this fun and addictive day completing 1000 piece jigsaws. Winning table took approx three and a half hours.

"Focus on the Federation" where our Top Team of Trustees and committee members met informally for their annual get-together. Bronnley entertained us with their quintessential fragrances and a good time was had by all!

Christmas Coffee Morning 2018
Members delighted in meeting up with others from all over the County, enjoyed their coffee/cake, browsed the enterprises stall and marvelled at Debs' willow weaving. A reflective time was when a tree was planted in WI House garden in memory of Winnie Shurville, a founder member of Weston Favell WI.

Over 35 attendees from across the county enjoyed a very lively 2nd Canasta Fun Day at WI House

WI Christmas Craft Fair held at The Tithe Barn, Wellingborough - many stalls offering much retail therapy, showing the skills and diversity of WI members, together with some local charity stalls. Lots of fun had by all, even Jules of Radio Northampton came in search of some "Treasure"!

The Walking Group followed the combined harvester across the Holdenby Estate on a glorious Saturday morning.

Chipping Warden and Edgcote WI - Federation Centenary Celebrations

Chipping Warden and Edgcote WI recently had their own Federation Centenary celebration. They planted a Silver Birch tree outside the WI hall which was publicised by the local newspaper. A beautiful slate plaque joins the tree.

The picture of the tree was taken this spring once it had grown and was in leaf and it still doing well.

They also held a cheese and wine party with music for the village. Plans are in hand for the celebration of there WI’s centenary in May next year.

8 June 2017 NFWI Annual Meeting held in Liverpool
The Northamptonshire contingent travelled up the day before and some members visited the Cavern Club whilst others were blown away by the Mersey. Successful conference with both Resolutions being passed and the conference ended with the Echo Centre rocking to the Sounds of the Mersey!

Congratulations to Cosgrove WI who came first in the 2017 County Quiz with 57 points. In a full room of teams from WIs from all over the County second place with 55 points was Hunsbury Hill 'A' with 55 points and third Roade WI with 54. 2016 Skittles Tournament
An exciting Final was played at Earls Barton WMC with a delighted Great Billing WI crowned Champions.This was a double celebration as they were runners-up in the Darts Tournament. Well done Great Billing WI!

Weather and venue - perfect! The talk and examples of historic shoes, available to inspect at close quarters, very instructive. Afterwards we viewed the extensive and attractively displayed shoes and "tools of the trade".

The Catering Committee truly excelled themselves with the most delicious imaginative lunch. Our speaker, Melissa Little, was entertaining as well as educational. There was an exceptionally happy atmosphere in the tranquil venue of Great Houghton Village  Hall. Follow that!

A Literary Lunch at Flore - Speaker, Liz Brandow
Richard III was born at Fotheringhay Castle in Northamptonshire. Liz Brandow talked us through the controversy and speculation so many years after his death. A scintillating talk followed by a delicious lunch.

Liz Garrod was a real trouper and had two launches. Maeve Taylor only had one launch but stole the show on Friday evening as she "looped the loop".

Darts & Skittles Final 2014
Every year we hold a Darts and Skittles Tournament which proves very popular.  The Winners rceived a Shield on the night of the Finals and the Teams are presented with a Trophy at our AGM in October. Congratulations to Middleton Cheney  WI (Darts Champions) and Bouverie WI (Skittles Champions).

An Evening with Michael Portillo
A full house welcomed Michael Portillo and thoroughly enjoyed a great evening. Michael spoke affectionately of his parents and his childhood, moving on to his political life and now in the media. He fielded some challenging questions in the Q&A  session afterwards.

The Reverend Richard Coles entertained over 100 members at Barnwell Village Hall with a witty and amusing talk.  This was followed by a delicious Italian themed luncheon prepared by our wonderful Catering Committee.Spring County Lunch

Scrabble Competition 2013
Having retained her crown last year as County WI Scrabble Champion Judith Pidd retained the trophy again this year.  Shirley Corke presented the trophy to Judith at the Christmas Coffee Morning.

Our Christmas Coffee Mornings are always well supported.  This year there were plenty of Christmas wreaths for sale; all made by Mary Sheldon, so many goodies to buy at our WI Enterprise able and as usual excellent refreshments. All this makes for a very pleasant start to the festive  period.

Craft Fair November 2013   
A lot of hard work, by WI members throughout the year, culminates in our annual Craft Fair.  The proceeds from the sale of some very imaginative crafts helps to boost WI funds.  Refreshments at this event are always  popular and a lot of fun is had by all.

County Lunch October 2013
Twice a year WI members have the opportunity to attend a County Lunch.  These are held in different areas of the County and this October Greens Norton Village Hall was the chosen venue.  The Speaker was Group Captain Tim Hewlett, recently  retired as Director of Royal Travel.  Our photos show Shirley Corke, Chairman, with Group Captain Tim Hewlett as well as members of Boddington WI who were lucky to win raffle prizes and the table arrangement.

County Quiz April 2013 
Newly refurbished Wicksteed Park was the venue for this bi-annual quiz and welcomed approximately 320 members to pit their wits against each other with 'back by demand' popular quiz master David Saint. Winners this year were Hunsbury Hill WI.

Prue Leith - November 2012 - Brooke Weston College, Corby

2012 was a very special year. Not only did we celebrate the London 2012 Olympics with the journey of the Baton but we went on to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee at a most prestigious venue - the grounds of Holdenby House.  A cold night and threatening rain did not dampen the spirits  of around 600 members, their family and friends.

JOURNEY OF THE BATON
An Olympic-themed idea to commemorate the huge sporting event in London this summer has been launched by members of Northamptonshire WI.
The journey of the Baton is a relay between all 126 WIs across Northamptonshire which began with Hunsbury Hill WI  on 15 February 2012.
After stopping at every WI for 24 hours the Baton will finish its journey at Holdenby House on Thursday 21 June when the Northamptonshire WI will celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in the grounds.
